Vanenssa Su

Vanessa Su is an accomplished artist who began her formal education at the Seoul Arts High School, where she majored in Western painting. She further honed her artistic skills at Ewha Womans University, where she pursued a double major in Western Painting and Sculpture within the College of Fine Arts.

Layers of Light: Traces of Silence and Repetition at Dawn

The artist continues working every day at dawn, between 3 and 4 a.m., in the silence when everyone else is asleep. This time is filled with cold wind, a slight emptiness, and a solitude that feels as if they have been left alone. There is a sense of loss, as if something has been misplaced, yet the artist cannot pinpoint exactly what it is. To fill this void, the artist engages in repetitive actions, emptying themselves in the process and ultimately discovering light. Repetition is not merely a routine for the artist but a meditative practice—a time of emptying and refilling, a driving force that transforms solitude into light.
