ARCH PROJECT will present the experimental project "Somewhere, Somewhere" on May 27th, collaborating with artist Hannah Benassi to host her first solo exhibition in China.
Hannah Benassi's paintings are journeys fading into the distance. Condensed into abstract slices of her canvases, these journeys map onto each other through overlaps, weaving a random structural aesthetic.
The artist draws inspiration from the interplay between nature and man-made objects observed during her travels—specifically, the morphological changes in wall surfaces over time. After decades or even centuries, these artificial structures are alternately worn by wind, rain, and sunlight, their fragile skins peeling or flaking off to reveal rhythmic layers. "Art must be natural to move people." (Chen Jiaying, Starting from Feelings) With a naturalistic spirit, Hannah captures the structures of natural and architectural details, then reconstructs her travel memories onto soft materials based on their impressions.
