Huang Xiaoliang was born in Jishou, Hunan province, in 1985. He graduated from Qingdao University in 2009 with a degree in Digital Media.
In 2010, Huang Xiaoliang was awarded the prestigious Tierney Fellowship, the Three Shadows Photography Award, and the Fang Jun Art Award by the Beijing Today Art Museum. In 2011, he was nominated for the Foam Paul Huf Award. Huang currently divides his time between Changsha and Beijing.
His creative practice unfolds along the ongoing flux of contemporary reality as a temporal axis, navigating and exploring the boundary between reality and fiction in life. Drawing inspiration from unexpected instants in life that transcend ordinary experiences, he reveals how repetitive yet often overlooked fragmented details embody collective memories and individual perceptions. By leveraging the distinct strengths of photography and painterly mediums, he captures and reconfigures ephemeral moments and vignettes from everyday life.
