Artist Qi Le participates in the group exhibition Where Thought Becomes Gesture, hosted by Santo Hall. This exhibition explores how artists deconstruct perception and materiality to create modes of existence beyond conventional boundaries. Each work redefines form, space, and time, carrying projections of the artist’s emotions and memories while continuously unfolding profound inquiries into the self, temporality, existence, and consciousness.
Qi Le’s practice draws from personal experience, taking the wild strawberry of her homeland—known as "Piaozi" (瓢子)—as a poetic thread. In her paintings, the Piaozi motif undergoes persistent metamorphosis, abstraction, and recurrence, serving both as an organic natural form and a metonymic code for embodied experience. It encapsulates multilayered projections of childhood, bodily memory, and tactile sensations from daily life. Her canvases exude an intimate yet steady rhythmic pulse. Through elastic brushstrokes and colors that advance, layer, and permeate one another, she conjures a vital state of being—untamed yet tenderly alive.
